1. AAAJ-LA Volunteer and Pro Bono Assistance with Immigration Relief / Apr 15 Training & Apr 18 / May 2 Workshops, Los Angeles
Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles seeks volunteer and pro bono assistance with its immigration relief and citizenship/naturalization work!
Interested volunteers and pro bono attorneys must sign up by contacting Christina Yang, Advancing Justice-LA Pro Bono Director, atcyang@advancingjustice-la.org. Please note that Advancing Justice receives a large volume of email from volunteers, and therefore you will not receive a confirmation email upon signing up. Thank you for your understanding!
Immigration – Expanded DACA and DAPA Eligibility Training and Workshops
Training
What: Be trained on how to assist with screening individuals one-on-one for their eligibility for the administrative relief available through President Obama’s November 2014 executive action. After this training, you can volunteer at our upcoming April and May workshops, and help individuals determine whether they can apply for deferred action for parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents (DAPA), expansion of the existing DACA program, and other available immigration relief. Help educate eligible community members on the need to start gathering evidence for their applications now. All volunteers welcome, regardless of language capacity. MCLE will be provided!*
When: Wednesday, April 15, 6-8 pm
Where: Winston & Strawn, 333 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles
Note: You must email Christina Yang to sign up for this training no later than Mon 4/13 or else we cannot guarantee your name will be placed on the building security list for entry to Winston’s offices. Thank you!
* Despite a Texas district court judge’s recent decision to issue a preliminary injunction blocking the implementation process of the expanded DACA and DAPA immigration relief programs, Advancing Justice will continue to hold administrative relief eligibility workshops. Advancing Justice’s position is that this is only a temporary delay and is very likely to be overturned by a higher court because there are strong legal grounds for the programs and the President’s executive action. The existing DACA program also remains in place and community members can continue to apply for relief or renew their relief through that program, so volunteers are still needed to assist!

The Thai Community Development Center (Thai CDC) is seeking applications and nominations for new board members in 2015.
Founded in 1994, Thai CDC has made it its mission to advance the social and
economic well-being of low and moderate income individuals in the greater Los Angeles area through a broad and comprehensive community development strategy based upon human rights advocacy, affordable housing, access to healthcare, promotion of small businesses, neighborhood empowerment, and social enterprises. While we work closely with the Thai community, we also work together with an array of other communities and community organizations in the East Hollywood area and throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
We are seeking applications from candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to the Thai community and who also have a strong interest or background in non-profit sector work. More specifically, we hope to garner applications from those with experience in law, fundraising, and/or finance, though all applications received will be accepted and duly considered. Thai language ability is not required for the position.
In general, our Board of Directors is tasked with governance, oversight, and also with leadership and promotion of Thai CDC. New board members will become part of a cohesive team composed of diverse and dedicated colleagues from a variety of professions.
We ask that incoming members commit to a renewable 2-year term (beginning upon their election) and to attending quarterly meetings. Furthermore, and among other things, new Board members will serve on Board committees, provide fundraising support, and represent our organization at various functions and events. This is a non-compensated position, but Board members may be reimbursed for expenses reasonably incurred in the performance of their duties.
